Service Hours
First of all,
I know many of you out there might be saying,
"I don't feel like keeping track of my service
hours." Or even the more higher intentioned
ones out there might say, "I don't want to brag
about all the service I did." Although this
is very noble of you, there is an even higher
purpose to reporting your service hours to your
club. Documenting service hours is vitally
important to Circle K remaining a successful non-profit
organization. It allows us to actually keep
dues to a minimum. Outside of that, it shows
others just how much we care about the great organizations
we serve. So do remember to report your
service hours to your club secretary or service
chair.
Service hours are very easy to report. You
only have to know what date you did service, for
how many hours, and give a brief description of
what was done. It's as easy as that.
There are some important things you should know
about counting hours as service. They can
all be found in the 2005 updated definition of
a service hour found in our policy code. (Click
here for this updated definition.)
Important to note in this definition is that travel
time to and from service projects counts as service
hours. Also, any time you put towards planning
a service project counts as well. The policy
changed last year in that you now must have
all service hours that you perform be endorsed
by your Circle K club, or Circle K in general
(Divisional, District, or International-scale).
Although this sounds scary and difficult,
it is quite simple. As long as what you
want to do is announced to members of your club
(through meetings, newsletters, mailers, etc.),
others are invited to come along, and it's not
to help out just a friend or family member (i.e.
babysitting, painting your neighbor's house, etc.),
it is endorsed by Circle K. Also, remember
that you have to pay your dues to count your service
hours. If you have any questions about all
this, ask your club secretary or email the District
Service Chair at service@wumcirclek.org.
